Closed Loop Recycling

Manbat, G&P Batteries and HJ Enthoven & Sons are all members of the ECOBAT group in the UK, playing key roles in recycling hazardous battery waste as part of the closed loop recycling process.

As the world’s largest producer and recycler of lead, ECOBAT Technologies Ltd is currently the only global company offering a closed recycling loop for lead acid batteries. That loop begins and ends with specialist ECOBAT group member Manbat which distributes new batteries to its customers and then collects them back as scrap. The scrap is then sorted by Manbat’s sister company, G&P batteries who transport it to H J Enthoven ready for the recycling process. The core material from these products is used by the smelters to manufacture the highest quality lead and lead alloys. Other operational facilities use additional products derived from lead recycling operations to produce a range of industrial products.

The lead smelting facility is tailored to make products designed for many specific markets including lead acid batteries. Lead is fed back to the world’s leading battery manufacturers to produce new batteries and the cycle is completed by Manbat when new batteries are bought in ready to distribute to customers once again.

More than 80 per cent of lead production is pure lead, which involves the manufacture of refined lead from scrap lead sources. Ecobat maximises the full potential of all its operations by converting what would have been waste into other products that we sell or recycle. These include sulphuric acid, polypropylene, sodium sulphate, zinc, aluminium, industrial minerals, plastics and poly-foams.

LUCAS Commercial Vehicle SUPREME Battery Range Launched

Manbat are pleased to announce an additional range to their Lucas commercial vehicle offering. Four part numbers which include the LS612, LS629, LS629UR and LS632 make up the Lucas Supreme CV range and provide features that exceed the existing Lucas Premium range.

The Lucas Supreme CV range is designed for high performance commercial vehicles with large power demands and high vibration requirements. The range includes the very latest original equipment technology and the lowest water consumption. The batteries exceed the EN Super Heavy Duty (SHD) requirements (EN4 standard and vibration resistance V3).

Design features in the new Supreme CV range such as ‘Labyrinth lid technology’ which condenses water vapour in the lid and re-feeds it back to the electrolyte reserves, ensure that water consumption is very minimal. Alongside the revolutionary PowerFrame® Grid Technology, ensuring low resistance, optimum conductivity, high starting power and exceptional corrosion resistance.

Proactive CV Battery Maintenance

A proactive CV battery maintenance program and premium quality products will pay dividends in the long term.

The UK is experiencing unusually mild weather at present; Manbat alongside Johnson Controls, the company behind the VARTA brand, advise commercial vehicle fleet managers that it’s not too late to give their commercial batteries a winter fitness check to avoid a potential breakdown.

Manbat’s longstanding message to the commercial battery sector focuses on ‘total cost of ownership’. Manbat & Batteries Accus Technologies Join Forces

The continual growth of Manbat Ltd under the ownership of ECOBAT Technologies Ltd shows no sign of slowing down with the announcement that French battery distributor Batteries Accus Technologies (BAT) is the latest specialist battery business to join the group fold.

The acquisition, completed on Tuesday 17th December 2013, brings a fourth European battery distribution business into ECOBAT’s Global Battery Distribution Division, which now consists of Manbat (UK and Republic of Ireland), Hefra (Netherlands), ACA (Belgium) and now, Batteries Accus Technologies (France).

Based in Varennes Vauzelles in Burgundy, BAT is a true battery specialist, supplying into most market sectors and is an excellent strategic fit with Manbat and its widely recognised Lucas, VARTA and Numax battery brands.

Commenting on the acquisition, Manbat’s managing director, Steve Sheppard said: “This latest acquisition demonstrates ECOBAT’s commitment to develop the battery distribution division alongside its formidable lead production and recycling capabilities.”
