Manbat, the UK’s largest automotive and commercial vehicle (CV) battery distributor, will be making its second appearance at Automechanika after a successful debut last time the trade fair was held in September 2012.
Once again its stand will be in hall 3 (3.1 G65), but this year it will be substantially larger, up from 12m2 to 56m2 and instead of being the sole representative of parent company, the ECOBAT Technologies group, Manbat will be one of three ECOBAT businesses, which will allow the group to showcase its many facets.
From a purely Manbat perspective, however, the event provides the perfect platform from which to reacquaint visitors with the distributor and its many brands, as well as to bring them up to speed with its latest developments, which include the rebrand of the Numax automotive and CV product ranges.
Due to the number of batteries that Manbat annually distributes and the excellent relationship it has with many original equipment battery manufacturers, including Johnson Controls Inc, for whom it is the UK’s primary distribution partner for the VARTA® brand, Manbat has the quantities of scale to be able to bulk order high specification batteries and therefore operate its business on a similar basis to a battery manufacturer.
As a result, Manbat has introduced two new models into both the Numax automotive and CV product ranges that have allowed it to respond to the needs of its many wholesale customers and which will have their first official showing at Automechanika. Therefore, either side of the existing Premium model, the company has now introduced the Standard and Supreme, to make a three-model family.
Although the majority of sales will continue to be of the Premium offering, as both the automotive and CV versions are high quality batteries that provide a long service life, the Standard and Supreme models respectively provide the solution for reliable and trustworthy performance at a lower cost and the crème de la crème, when peak performance is the prime concern.
Alongside these additions, visitors will be able to find out more about the entire Numax range, which includes leisure, marine, motorcycle, golf and mobility batteries and also its other brands, such as Lucas, VARTA and Sonnenschein.
Lucas Supreme CV
Manbat has also announced the introduction of a new range topping commercial vehicle battery offering under the renowned Lucas brand.
The new Lucas Supreme range of four part numbers, which are available with 140, 170, 180 and 225 Ah capacities, are designed for high performance commercial vehicles with large power demands and high vibration resistance requirements.
Each model in the Supreme CV range incorporates the very latest in original equipment technology, such as a specialist lid designed to minimise water consumption by recycling condensed water vapour back into the electrolyte and punched plate grids, to optimise conductivity and ensure low resistance and reduce power loss.
This means that the batteries within the Supreme CV range not only provide high starting efficiency and possess exceptional corrosion resistance, they are also extremely economic for CV operators to run as they are totally sealed and completely maintenance free.
The high performance nature of the Supreme range is reflected in their specification, which exceeds EN4 V3 SHD (Super Heavy Duty) requirements for extreme vibration resistance.
The Supreme range supplements the existing 28- strong Lucas Premium CV and Lucas Classic CV offerings, which together provide CV operators with a complete range of options to satisfy the requirements of their entire fleet.
Since leaving the ownership of the Pemberton family in 2009, Manbat has gradually become more aligned with the internal structure of the ECOBAT Technologies group, while remaining faithful to its core principals of supplying its customers with high quality products, which are backed up with an exceptional level of customer service.
So subtle have the changes been over the last five years, that many may well be unaware that Manbat is part of a larger group, which is testament to the ‘business as usual’ approach the team originally intended.
However, the most visible change is now about to begin, as the company has modified its famous logo to one more in keeping with the identity of the ECOBAT Technologies group as a whole.
“Our original logo is very well recognised right across the industry,” explains marketing manager, Myles Pemberton, “so it was important for us to ensure that the new version is recognisable and familiar, while also incorporating the corporate identity of the ECOBAT Technologies group.
“We are really pleased with result of our design work as the new logo identifies Manbat as part of the group, but we’ve managed to keep the mountain image, which dates back to 1970, while also introducing a new ‘Battery Power Systems’ strapline, that recognises our acquisition of industrial battery specialists BPS in 2012.
“Although the development of a new logo does not directly benefit our customers, Manbat’s commitment to quality, service and value certainly does. It’s also worth reaffirming the fact that as part of a group of companies specialising in the supply of lead, Manbat is able to recycle almost 100% of each scrap battery it collects, which means that Manbat’s customers have access to a very powerful environmental message to relay to their customers.”
